HMC CLUB'S PRESIDENT & SECRETARY
PHIL & SHIRLEE GRIFFIN HONORED
AT ANNUAL MEETING

At our 2003 Annual Meeting at the Emerald Desert Resort where Phil & Shirlee had planned and were executing another wonderful gathering for all of us the tables were turned on them for a few minutes Friday evening.

As we were finishing up our "Bring your own favorite meat and pot luck salad dinner", Tom & Doris Enos called for everyone's attention for a few minutes.  They started off by recognizing several members who were present that had Birthdays in November (those that were listed in the Membership Directory) and then asked for any who wanted to mentioned theirs if it was missed.  There were a few who confessed and mentioned the date of their Birthday.  Since the Directory does not list any Wedding Anniversaries they asked if anyone was having one in November and a few were brought to light.

By this time not knowing where this was going, Phil was standing next to Tom with clipboard in hand waiting to make some announcements.  Tom again asked if there was anyone who wanted to mention any kind of Anniversary they had this month and no one offered anything.  Tom then said he was aware of one that someone was not confessing to.  He then turned to Phil and at the same time called for Shirlee to come join him.  Tom recalled for everyone that Phil and Shirlee had celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in May but they were not mentioning an Anniversary they were having in November.

They had a bit of a blank expression until Tom mentioned it was their 10th Anniversary of being President and Secretary of the HMC Club; and the Club wanted to Recognize and Honor them for all their work and dedication to the Club and all of us.  Doris then came up and read a Poem that HMC Club member Ken Potter had sent in with their Card to Phil & Shirlee.  It really said just about all that could be said about our Beloved President and Secretary.

As Doris read the Poem, Tom brought out a gift box which they opened at the conclusion of the Poem.  They, of course found the Card from the Club in which the Club's Thanks were outlined.

Phil read this portion of the Card to all.  Also they found the check which was the Club's Members gift to Phil and Shirlee for them to use as they see fit for their enjoyment.  Two pages of names of those who participated in the gift were listed in the Card.  In the box as well were all the individual cards members sent in with their participation amounts.

The next morning Phil and Shirlee mentioned they had stayed up after they got to their coach and read all the individual cards and treasured every one of them.

Tom and Doris want to express their Thanks for the participation of the membership in this effort to honor Phil & Shirlee as it was very richly deserved.  Tom mentioned that he would have been proud to have been the one who had the idea to Recognize and Honor Phil and Shirlee but he wasn't.   Jim and Sally McClenaghan brought the fact to light that it was their 10th Anniversary as President & Secretary and thought we should honor them for their unselfish work and dedication to the Club.  Along with Frank & Irene Griffin the three couples worked out what they thought would be a nice way to go and Tom & Doris acted as a clearing house for the project.  From all the comments received it went well.

Again. Thanks to all.  ......                                       Tom & Doris Enos

Here's is Ken Potter's Poem

PHIL AND SHIRLEE

Thanks to you both --
For making the HMC Club the best ever seen
As our President and our Secretary --
The members could call you both, "King and Queen"

All those strains and efforts --
You've gone through to make us have fun
Has made our Club stand out --
As being the real #1

Over hill and dell
And through all intersections and alleys
You've always made us glad--
To just be a part of all your rallies

PHIL for a decade you've ran to and fro
Just to make our margaritas and all that fun
Other than that  with all your spare time
Can you tell us what it is you've done?

And SHIRLEE  once just for your birthday
There were a bunch of us that met to celebrate
And we all had a good time
But we had to drive from here to New York State

Oh but we are all so very happy
That you booth could tolerate this pack
Because for sure no other couple
Could have stood-up under the static and the flack

Your plans and schedules for your rallies --
In the great Newsletter are shone
And it always makes us wish
That we all could have gone

You two have made us all desire --
To be with you on every rally and rendezvous
And all this fun and all the fond memories
Is all because of the perfection of you

Now I know that on your every trip --
We have always wished that we could be there
But wouldn't you really love and like
To just once-go some place without us in your hair

SHIRLEE and PHIL you have been very superb
At finding for us every pleasure and hidden thrill
But the one thing that you or us could never find
Is someone to replace our SHIRLEE and PHIL!
